Dear Waterfront Seattle project,
We enthusiastically encourage you to build as much native-plant landscaping and urban wildlife habitat into your project as possible.
Your design goals include innovation, sustainability, connection, and authentic Seattle experience. Nothing could better support those goals than a beautiful, thoroughly Pacific Northwest landscape that promotes our native pollinators, our wild birds, and our salmon.
Your partner project, the Elliott Bay Seawall, is commmitted to urban wildlife habitat in the aquatic and intertidal zones as well as the riparian and upland areas that overlap with your project. Their groundwork supports your continued implementation of urban habitat.
Other regional reconciliation ecology projects, such as the recent daylighting of Thornton Creek near the Northgate Mall, indicate broad public and governmental support for improving urban wildlife habitat.
For a vibrant, unique, functional, sustainable waterfront that supports both wildlife and people, please emphasize high-value urban wildlife habitat in your design and installation.
Thank you,
