Money grabbing by vale of Glamorgan, as a resident of Barry, we should have to pay to park in our own town !!

I strongly disagree with this proposal. It will do nothing but harm to the viability of businesses and will put off locals from visiting. This town is/was a great tourist attraction and has benefited recently from a certain TV series. The council should be building on that instead of squeezing the pockets of the council tax payers to fund such a ridiculous idea.

Scrap the fee for on street parking. We pay enough in council tax and we have not been consulted about these proposed plans.

The council wants tourism and houses but doesn’t want to look after the people of their own town. It’s insane we have to pay a lot of money for parking!

This parking scheme will damage Barry - and there are so many better ways the £89k could be spent within the town.

They should take a pay cut themselves, they’re grossly over paid, and have too much time to sit around thinking how to extort more money out of people.

I strongly oppose the proposal. The 2 hour free car parking spaces are vital to maintaining the viability of Barry Island. For locals and businesses.

I strongly object to the proposed £10 car parking charge around Barry Island and the removal of the free 2-hour parking. This decision will have a devastating impact on local businesses, particularly during the quieter winter months when they rely on the support of local residents. It will deter locals from visiting regularly and damage the sense of community that sustains the area year-round.
Additionally, it will negatively affect events like the weekly Parkrun, which provides an invaluable opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to participate in free, inclusive exercise, promoting health and wellbeing. These events are vital in encouraging an active lifestyle and fostering community spirit.
The council should prioritise the health, wellbeing, and economic prosperity of Barry's residents and businesses rather than focusing solely on short-term revenue. This proposal risks undermining what makes Barry Island such a special and vibrant place for locals and visitors alike. I cannot object strongly enough to this proposal

I appreciate that times are hard but wouldn’t it be better to charge £2 instead of £10 so that people will still keep supporting local businesses rather than not come at all?

I live in Barry and drive to Barry Island several times a week, for community groups, health and well being and meeting friends. I am on a pension with no extra benefits. I couldn't afford extra costs of parking on side roads, so I would avoid going there.
