We, the undersigned Iowa nurses want to make it clear that we oppose changes to our scope of practice without our knowledge, input and ability to affect those changes. We make it clear that only with the direct input of staff nurses who perform the scope of practice should any changes be considered. We request email/mail notification to all Iowa staff nurses prior to any consideration. We would want included in that notification, the following: a copy of the proposed changes to our scope of practice, identification of those parties that have requested the changes, evidence of fact-based decision making ensuring patient safety.
The feedback from nursing colleagues continues to confirm that transparency remains our primary objective. I am currently organizing the documentation to ensure that our collective request for formal notification reaches the appropriate oversight boards. We must remain diligent in monitoring any potential developments regarding these adjustments to our professional responsibilities.

The level of engagement this petition has received underscores the collective resolve of nurses across the state to protect our professional standards. This momentum confirms that our requirement for transparency and clinical input resonates deeply within the nursing community. We will use this backing to ensure our professional perspective remains central to these discussions.

Ridiculous. We spend years getting our license just for people who never touch a patient to mess with our job description? Nope.

Nurses are the ones actually there at the bedside 24/7. Stop making decisions behind closed doors without asking us first.
