A petition for the Kentucky Board of nursing to review the LPN scope of practice in regards to LPN‘s no longer being able to conduct full assessments on their own. LPNs are nurses too, and they are pivotal members of the healthcare team in the hospital setting. RNs rely on the extra support LPN’s provide when they are allowed to manage and care for a team of patients on their own. The Kentucky Board of nursing‘s decision to remove this skill from the LPN’s scope of practice will only more healthcare system, and cause staffing shortages in hospitals, and add unnecessary workload to nurses all across Kentucky. Allowing LPNs to fully support RNs removes unnecessary workload from RN’s in the hospital setting, and allows better patient care outcomes and satisfaction.
Trying to regress our scope is crazy. Considering we had zero over sight during Covid. And the fact that all LPN programs require us to be trained on the said changes. We are not glorified CMTs. There should be a change to all programs if this is the case and reimbursement for all areas affected.
