This petition is being circulated to a select few because we feel that our town, Brookfield Ct., has the responsibility to make our parents, children and school staff  FEEL SAFE.  Similiar actions have already taken place in neighboring towns such as: Monroe, Ridgefield, Danbury and Redding, among many others.  We owe this to our new 26 Angels in Heaven, to do our best to protect our children and schools. 

Description of School Resource Officer:

Parents need to know that SRO's are NOT just "cops" on campus. The SRO has special training (National Association of School Resource Officers) to work in schools with children. The SRO " becomes involved in the students' lives as a positive role model. The SRO position encompasses three major components: education, counseling and law enforcement." The SRO's  job is very different in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. We, of course, want to preserve the quality of education in the Brookfield Public Schools, while still adding an important layer of safety, counseling, and education for our children. The cost for four SRO's, is 1% of the Town's Budget.
 

IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY KNOW WHAT A SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER IS PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW (THEY ARE A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO ANY SCHOOL STAFF; KIDS LOVE THEM.  THEY WORK WITH ALL THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS AND FUNCTION AS EDUCATORS AND SECURITY.  THEY ARE ALREADY IN THE MAJORITY OF OUR CT. HIGH SCHOOLS AND IN MANY CT. ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOLS AS WELL. )
