Students and Professors Against Cutting the Budget for Higher Education in Pennsylvania

This petition seeks to underscore the importance of higher education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Recently Tom Corbett proposed a 50% cut to public and semi-public universities, such as Edinboro, Lock Haven, Slippery Rock, Penn State, Pitt, Temple and a dozen others. We are asking that our state representatives and state senators vote "no" to slashing funding for education. In order for our state to move forward, we need to ensure that every single person, regardless of income level, can afford a higher education. People with a college education are more successful, have an easier time finding a job, and are more likely to stay employed. It is vital that we have an educated citizenry. Cutting education will create a citizenry that is uneducated, and therefore, more likely to be under-employed, more likely to need welfare and other government assistance, and more likely to commit crimes. We cannot afford these possibilities. Please, do not deprive Pennsylvania of a brighter future.
