The government finally backed down and abandoned the plans for the Deryneia roadblock. This win belongs to every one of the 537 people who refused to accept the normalization of our occupation. We have forced them to acknowledge that our return to Famagusta is not up for negotiation.

Declaration/Objection of the 'Citizens and Friends of Famagusta'
Against the Legalization of the Occupation -
ΝΟ ΤΟ ΤΗΕ OPENING OF DERYNEIA ROADBLOCK
We, the undersigned Citizens and Friends of Famagusta strongly oppose (and object) to the proposed by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus opening of the military Roadblock of Deryneia.
The intended opening should only take place (for the benefit of all Cypriots) together with the return of the entire town of Famagusta to its rightful inhabitants, in accordance with the relevant UN Resolutions, also ensured by the European Acquis.
We do not support measures that contribute nothing at all to our efforts for our permanent return and the full restoration of all our Human and Political Rights. A fake "normalization" of the Turkish occupation would amount to our acceptance, as faits accomplis, the present unacceptable status quo.
We, Famagustians and Friends will never cease to struggle with every legal means at our disposal, until each one of us returns to Famagusta, from which we were brutally chased away by the Turkish army in 1974, still occupying our home town against all international law. Our only resolution is our return and re - settlement to Famagusta, our town, still waiting for all its citizens to return.

This would be another step towards the acceptance and ultimate legitimisation of the illegal occupation! The border should remain firmly closed until a full and acceptable resolution to the occupation!
If someone can tell me what the point of another checkpoint is then I may change my mind. The only message it sends out is that we are heading to permanent segregation.

The unconditional opening of the Deryneia road block will benefit only the occupying country, while hurting the local tourist and other businesses.
Our aim is to unify Cyprus not to opening more Roadblocks and specially this Derynia one. Now the good will measure is to implement the UN resolution of giving Famagusta back to its citizens. Nicos Savvides Ippocratous 23 Famagusta

If we do not get our town back we should not agree to the opening of the Deryneia pass. How will that benefit us? It will bring us tourism from the Occupied part area. We must be fools to thing that it will benefit us in any way.
