The school board has officially rescinded the policy requiring vaccination or testing for participation in extracurricular activities. While this outcome feels like a positive shift for our students and their families, we must remain vigilant to ensure that these opportunities remain open and inclusive for everyone moving forward.

We oppose policies which require proof of vaccination or forced testing in order to participate in extra curricular activities in Frederick County Public Schools (Maryland). These activities are essential to the school experience for many children and coercing them to take a vaccine or forcing them to disclose their confidential health information by testing is wrong. We feel this decision was made without adequate public input and without adequate discussion and evaluation of all the facts. Our children are suffering because of this policy. Our children could face life long consequences of this policy as many of our student athletes and performers rely on their participation in these activities to help them attain scholarships or entrance into other organizations.

We know that the shots do not prevent infection or prevent people from spreading it. We know that weekly testing is not going to stop the spread because rapid tests aren't being utilized and students will still be engaging with others while awaiting test results. We believe this policy is discriminatory by segregating unvaxed students and also because it doesn't appear to apply to coaches or spectators, referees, etc. Children are participating in sports and performances all over this country - approrpriately unmasked and FCPS's own data does not indicate that this policy is necessary.

Please rescind this policy. The Board needs to devote adequate time to hearing public comments and hearing actual evidence presented by a variety of experts. The Board also needs to fully address all concerns regarding the exclusion of students including those with religious or medical exemptions as well as concerns regarding medical privacy and division among the students.

"Requiring weekly testing ONLY for non-vaccinated students is blatant discrimination...since it is well documented that vaccinated individuals are both getting, transmitting, and dying from/with the virus in ever increasing numbers."

This should not even be up for discussion! Do you require students to have the flu shot in order to play? No! This is no different. And when other pandemic hit like swine flu never a thought. You will most likely be sued by parents if you try to enforce this and it’s not law!

Absolutely NOT! This is a new technology vaccine and signals of problems (many adverse events and death) were present in VAERS our governments own vaccine tracking system as far back as February 2021. You must NOT mandate this. It will be a dangerous and reckless decision if done.

Vaccine does not prevent infection or transmission, and testing is still a medical intervention. It invades student privacy and violates their personal liberty to mandate a medical procedure. Everyone has the opportunity to get the vax if they choose, and if it makes them feel protected then they are not at risk.

Not a single athlete around the world has caught covid and died while participating in sports. Athletes and kids in shape are the LEAST likely to get sick from covid. Why shame them by testing weekly?

Please rescind this mandate. It makes no sense to only test those without the vaccine. It has been proven that vaccinated people can also catch Covid 19. It makes no sense to only test a portion of the population participating in extracurricular programs. Follow the science. The numbers are coming down.

No to vaccine. No to testing.

This policy is not evidence based. It ignores science.
