FCPS is not testing teachers, coaches and other staff, so there is no reason to be testing ONLY unvaccinated students. This is anti-science, because fully vaccinated people are catching and transmitting COVID at rates equal to or higher than unvaccinated people. The data is showing more and more hospitalizations of fully vaccinated people every day. Also, this discriminates against the unvaccinated students, when their vaccinated peers are just as capable of spreading this virus as unvaccinated students are. It will be OBVIOUS which students are unvaccinated just by the evidence of certain students having to be tested at all vs. their peers. This has already and will create MORE DIVISION AND BULLYING opportunities against unvaccinated students. This test or vax policy needs to be rescinded immediately!! Thank you!!

I agree whole-heartedly that this requirement needs to be recinded. Indeed, I recently sent the following email to the teacher at Oakdale who is charged with collecting our kids health info --
Dr. Mr. _________
Per your email below, we will be taking the option to complete the testing on our own outside of the school system. I am looking into the best option. I will let you know the weekday Caroline will be tested and results submitted as soon as possible.
I hope my expressed concerns in prior emails, and what I am about to say, will not deny Caroline equal opportunity and consideration in her auditions. However, I am compelled to share a few thoughts in response to the email you sent.
First, let me say that I know full well you are not the one making decisions on all things COVID. Thus, my comments here are not directed at you...except that I wish more teachers would follow the example of teachers and school administrators around the country (including friends of mine) who are pushing back on what is happening.
To begin with, it is highly disturbing that a teacher is being put in the position of collecting personal health information from students. A health professional, perhaps? A teacher, absolutely not!
Beyond that, it is disturbing that FCPS is adopting these irrational and unscientifically-based policies at all. Based on multiple sources, there have been less than 300 COVID-related deaths among people 18 or younger...and almost all of them had significant comorbidities. Studies show kids under 18 survive COVID at a rate of 99.995%. To put this in perspective, 2,400 teen drivers were killed in car accidents in 2019...which is low compared to some years. Yet, we don't require teens to submit to a driving test weekly to prove they are fit to participate in school activities and are not a danger to their fellow students, teachers, and administrators. In addition, it is well documented that kids who had COVID and recovered (which includes my kids)

This should not even be up for discussion! Do you require students to have the flu shot in order to play? No! This is no different. And when other pandemic hit like swine flu never a thought. You will most likely be sued by parents if you try to enforce this and it’s not law!
