The park remains named as it should be. It has been a long and exhausting fight to preserve this honor but we succeeded. We must keep our guard up to ensure the name stays where it belongs.
The many who admire Irish freedom fighter Raymond McCreesh have as much right to remember him in this way as those who admire unionist peers, British knights and British kings.
We the people of Newry reject any such motion to rename our park.
Please sign this petition to give your support in keeping the 'Raymond McCreesh Park' in respect and honour of this great man.
The climb toward one thousand signatures is draining but necessary to show them we are not going anywhere. If you can get just one more person to add their name today it will sharpen our position when we bring this to the council.

I believe that this Park should be kept the name it has been given. I live in the area and believe that this does not offend anyone from this specific area and I would have no problems with people from other areas, religions, backgrounds naming their streets/parks after what they wish.

The people of this area has expressed their clear intention to keep this park named after a local hero, Raymond Mc Creech. We will not be intimidated or told by people who don't live here, what we should call our park or who it should be named after!

There are many streets in Newry named after former English army if this name is changed lets change the English ones. Downshire place. Hill Street Cowan Street Needham St Place. Killmorey St Terrace Corry Monument etc etc, be fair and equal all will be fine.

The people who LIVE there fully support the park which has been named Raymond McCreesh Park for years & years with no issues. This campaing to rename is a complete waste of time, energy & money that could be far better put to use elsewhere. Ridiculous.....

I think the people of Newry should be allowed to name parks as they see fit. The Roads Service has no problems naming are roads after the Royals or British Military who can be seen as murderers from the other view point.

Of course the name should be retained. Raymond McCreesh was a distinguished republican in this area and people here have every right to name their park after him. What about Bagnalls Castle, the Albert Basin, Rostrevor? All named after British royal or military figures, will they be renamed?
