No No No to the closure. It would be far better to put traffic lights (use the redundant lights at Washington).

something needs to be done i.e. traffic lights similar to Durham park and ride. It works there and it is close to A1 roundabout. as long as sequence of lights us correct. Can't close junction all together.

We must keep this junction open. It is vital for emergency services to get into the village. No consideration has been made to the people living close to the junction and access to their homes.

I used this junction daily, cars need to approach this slower to stop accidents a speed camera just before or traffic lights would make a massive diffrence. Closing the junction will just cause build up of traffic in other areas.

This will cause major increase in traffic through Houghton and will severely inconvenience residents of Newbottle who use this every day on their way to work etc.... Accidents only occur on this road if people do not use the junction correctly. Speed cameras would help slow down people speeding on the A690 and either a round about or traffic lights would also prevent the closure of the junction. The idea to close the junction is just ridiculous and has obviously not been thoroughly thought through
