not the most practical of ideas, I'm at pains to see why time and money has been spent during its inception. only a few months ago it was worked on, at least asses it over a period.

i agree that this particular junction needs to be looked at due to safety reasons but surely traffic lights or a round about will be much more effective than closure!

There are other traffic calming measures which can be taken on the 690 with no need to close the junction. Totally unnecessary.

If the junction at Newbottle is closed, congestion WILL build up at the Houghton Cut slip road and tailbacks on the A690. Cause and effect, closing the Newbottle junction=accidents at Houghton.

NO to the closure at the junction at Newbottle. Either put traffic lights or roundabout there. It should not matter about the cost as Sunderland wastes money on other roundabouts ( the one at sea burn for example ) and this is to save lives not for decoration !

No No No to the closure. It would be far better to put traffic lights (use the redundant lights at Washington).
