Who thought of that bright idea then? The only thing what needs to happen there is a maybe a roundabout which will help the flow of traffic and helpthe outside lane especially heading towards houghton at peak times not to become so congested with a risk of a collisio.

this is a ridiculous idea, I only use this crossing a few times a week, and even I'm annoyed at the thought of it, anyone living in the Houghton-le-Spring area who want access to the A19 or Durham will be badly effected. the extra mile or 2 might not sound like much, but in the mornings and evenings that could make a huge difference to people's timings.

This is a major link junction without this junction there will be a high volume of traffic through Houghton town centre unnecessary. The emergency services will be delayed using vital time. As a suggestion on approach to the junction from both sides if the speed limit was reduced before the junction this would surly be the answer.

delayed response times to emergency vehicles and also the delays to the general public. must have an impact on local business too will put strain on an already busy roundabout at the bottom of houghton cut

Closure is not an option. Delayed response times for emergency vehicles, many vehicles having to make longer journeys and more congestion in Houghton, Grasswell, Newbottle and Shiney Row. A roundabout or traffic signals like at Ramside are the only options.

I use this crossing daily to get to work, if this closed I'd have to travel all the way through Penshaw or down to Houghton just to get to Newbottle. Improved road markings/individual driving knowledge would solve the issue.
