As from the 1st July 2014 Caerphilly County Borough Council will be charging Trailers & Vans for using the civic amenity cites. These charges will start at £35 for small vans and trailersand increase to £70 for larger vans upto a Ford Transit size.

The Councils are defending their actions by saying that the new controls are being introduced to deter the abuse of the sites by businesses and to recover some of the costs associated with delivery by vans and trailers.

However we have since been informed that the process of the waste disposal is not like one would first imagine. Joe public would naturally assume that when items are disposed of at a civic amenity site that this is the end of its existence, that the landfill is its final destination. Wrong!

Wood is recycled into wood chip. Metals are scrapped and lets be honest we have all become aware of the value of scrap metal of late. Even the general waste is taken away to a local company where it is once again sorted where anything can be recycled is removed and reused. Only at the items that are left at the end of this process are taking to landfills.

We also all love and enjoy our beautiful countryside which is already over run with the devastation caused by fly tippers. Unfortunately it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that there is going to be a massive increase in fly tipping. Surely clearing up after fly tippers will cost the council but it will also damage our surrounding countryside in the process.

Help us stop these fees coming into place! Lets have a really good go at saying NO to Caerphilly Council. I say we pay them enough already we should not have to pay for this service. They should be making it easier to dispose of our household waste properly not more difficult.

And for those of you who think that walking in and carrying your waste in is an option. Its against health and safetyregulations as there are no public footpaths and walk ways.

So please please please sign this petition so we can present it to the council and show them what the people of Caerphilly and the surrounding areas actually want and need.

Many thanks for your support.

I do agree with large vans which are sign written but for those people who have only got a small car and wants to get rid of a three piece suite and got the chance of borrowing a van surley they should be able to do that without paying the council £15 or more and have to keep it dry or they won't take it anyway

my husband uses a van for work but he keeps our bits in it too. cant believe we might get charged for taking our own household waste.

Ridiculous. All this will do is get more rubbish dumped in the country lanes and we will end up paying for the cleanup anyway.

dont they realize people will just fly tip instead? it makes no sense to punish regular folk trying to do the right thing.
