Rezoning this area to large retail is a terrible idea for our neighborhood. Traffic, noise and panhandling will increase in our community. HEB is a great store, just not on this small lot and extremely busy intersection.

We have plenty of grocery stores of all types serving our area, including a Central Market owned by HEB at Preston/Royal. No current HEB would fit on that site. I’m stunned that they want that location. It’s like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Not to mention the ridiculous traffic that will result.

There is growing concern among residents that the proposed HEB store will significantly increase traffic on Hillcrest and Churchill Roads. Churchill is currently serviced by a traffic light which regulates both ingress and egress onto Hillcrest. This traffic signal is the only point of controlled access for residents dependent on this intersection including Churchill Pointe, The Rec Center, Helsem Way, Helsem Bend, Araglin, The Williamsburg and many homes in Lake Forest. In the past year there have been several serious accidents at this intersection when vehicles ran the light, underscoring the dangers posed by HEB bringing additional traffic on Hillcrest.

I share your concerns and I hope this petition is successful in changing the zoning from commercial back to residential.
