Recently, the school curriculum has been changed throughout many states. The Common Core curriculum has been made to promote critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. However, the new curriculum has failed to do this, and does not benefit students. There are countless reasons as to why the Common Core curriculum is a cataclysm to the world of education. Primarily, it not only negatively affect students but also educators. Educators who have been teaching the same curriculum for years find it difficult to adjust to the new curriculum. This causes students to struggle, as they are being instructed by those unfamiliar with the curriculum. Also, the new curriculum will lead to an increase in high school dropouts. As Valerie Strauss once wrote, "the six-year dropout rate would rise from 15 percent to 30 percent dropout rate by 2020 unless learning environments are drastically changed — which isn’t happening even as the Core is being implemented in many states. It also projects that the four-year graduation rate would drop from 75 percent to 53 percent." The Common Core curriculum has made students test subjects in an experiment. The results of this experiment have shown that Common Core does not provoke any critical thinking, problem-solving, or analytical skills. It has accomplished little. The United States is behind in education and the Common Core curriculum will only push our nation further behind in a constantly changing world. We need to fix this world, and before we can fix this world, we need to fix this country, and before we can fix this country, we need to fix this state. The first step in fixing the state is fixing the education system. Abolishing Common Core will significantly help improve the education of students. It is not too late to save our youth.
