Our library has been declining for several years and losing books and movies to other sites. Why? A complete loss would be a terrible mistake for our town. Do our commissioners want to give the property for development to their friends, or are they just thoughtless? There should be a clear plan to redevelop a library on the same site which is for the community.

Our libraries provide and indispensably important public space for the sharing of knowledge and the building of community. There is plenty of public land in this area to build a new library and smoothly transition to it rather than leaving citizens without this valuable public space. This decision needs to be reversed.

My father has retired and lived in the neighbourhood for 20 years. The library for him is not only a place to find and borrow media, it's also where he uses the internet for email and research, meets people in the community, and enjoys the atmosphere. The library is an integral part of his happiness and satisfaction living in Venice. Please keep it open.

How can you close the library with not plans in place for when you do? Why was it decided so quickly with no community input? It all sounds fishy to me and I wouldn't be surprised is a builder already has a permit to build more condos on the site!

Unless the mold situation is threatening to the employees' and patrons' health, the closure should be postponed at least until the end of the tourist season and school year. Kids from SLA, Epiphany, and VHS use this facility every single day. Our visitors from around the the country and international visitors flick to the library in a daily basis. A kiosk is a poor substitute for such a vibrant part of our community. The selection of an appropriate site should be pushed to the top of the list.

Don't close the library. Todays society has gone too far! People deserve peace in reading books. Children, family's, and college kids deserve the right to relax old school and learn without electronic devices. What would study groups be like for people without libraries? Libraries are a signature of peaceful social gatherings in positive ways. Somewhere to go to get away on a hard day. Place to meet people and have a connection... What happened to our solcialism? Taking away Venice library is going to make it worse for people who enjoy books. Reading and using mobile devices for things we used to do is not only hurting us physically, but mentally and socially. Especially the toddlers of developing stages. Books brought art and social stimulus. I have a lot of positive memories from growing up knowing I had access to library.

Something is very strange about the sudden closing of the library. The mold has been there for years and nothing has been done? What's the rest of the story? And as a center of the community it should definitely stay on the island (and I do not even live on the island)!

Plans should definitely be made for a temporary site before the library is closed. The county has known of this problem for a long time. It has the responsibility to have a temporary site in place before closing the library.

Do not close the library without a solid plan for the collection and use of library services in Venice. The sudden closure without a plan gives the perception the County does not care about the citizens of Venice.

I neither li9ve in Venice or Florida for that matter, but I sometimes live with my library in MA. PLEASE do not close your library unless you have an adequate substitute. You cannot imagine the impact on a library closing.
