The number of people using the Venice Library should have shown to the County that this library is important to both the young and old who live in the vicinity of the Island of Venice and that its permanent removal would be a terrible mistake. It should be replaced by another library building on the cultural campus of Venice.

I've never been to this library when it wasn't busy! It's convenient for not just those living on the Venice Island, but also for those of us in Nokomis, Osprey, Casey Key and North Venice, Laurel, etc. We need this library! Please don't leave us out! Keep our Venice library!!

The Venice Public Library is a fixture of the City of Venice. The location is central to the schools and to downtown. I'd say they need to open more libraries to accommodate the growth instead of shutting down a historic location.

With experience as a former president of a library board in Kansas I am appalled at the decision the county quickly jumped into regarding closing our public library. This is a public facility well used and historic. That alone should have created an open opportunity for input from residents and a presentation of a long term plan for patrons.

The Venice library has been detrimental in the lives of my family- as we utilize it almost daily in the summer, and weekly during the school year. Miss Pam and Miss Pat are like family for my children, and we have made many trips to the library just to see them! We are saddened by the fact that there will be no temporary facility to accommodate the patrons of this library. Please hear our voices!

I am in complete agreement with this petition. Seems the way this was handled is very underhanded and secretive. I do not think that Sarabeth Kalajian, director of libraries for Sarasota County should not have had the right to make the decision to Sarasota County Commission to close our Venice Library. There should have been public notice about this so citizens could have had input. There is something very wrong with the way this has been handled. Please keep the Venice Island library open until another site is available on the Island. In fact, what is wrong with the site it is on now. If library is going to be closed at least rebuild on the same site. Betty McCabe
