Save Supra Endura
Hey analog printers,
due to Kodak's recent announcement of the discontinuance of Supra Endura, we are petitioning that they continue with its manufacture.
"Product Discontinuance
KODAK PROFESSIONAL SUPRA ENDURA Paper will be
discontinued by year end 2009 or when stock is depleted. KODAK
PROFESSIONAL SUPRA ENDURA VC Digital Paper is the
alternative replacement."
Thousands of professional darkroom printers, along with countless students and amateur enthusiasts use this paper for their work, and it would be a travesty to see it go away. Yes, we are in an economic turndown, but even a company like Kodak; who has stated their "support" for analog photographers should continue to support the optical darkroom color printer with this paper.
To break down what is what here, Kodak's "replacement" for Supra Endura is the Endura VC paper. Not only is this paper much higher in contrast, but also much higher in saturation levels. This is somewhat controllable with digital LED or laser output(the exposure medium this paper was designed for originally), but much harder, if not impossible, to correct for in optical enlarging. This presents a problem to the enthusiast and even professional printer, many of whom rely on Supra Endura currently, to give them more of an "average" look, and a truer, more accurate definition of colors and contrast.
So, if you currently use this paper for your printing, have thought of using it someday, or have used it in the past, please sign our petition for Kodak to continue with the manufacturing of this terrific product. Even if you're part of the 'digital revolution' that is sweeping photography circles right now, please support your analog partners in helping them save this product from discontinuance.
In addition to signing, please call Kodak customer service and KINDLY let them know that you want this AWESOME product to continue!
