we actually did it and the hospital is staying open. i cant believe we pulled this off but im so thankful for everyone who jumped in to help keep these doors open. we need to stay sharp but for now lets just celebrate this win.

Final supporters
The doctors of St. Vincent’s Hospital join together in alliance with local members of the New York State Nurses Association to take a stand against the closing of this essential 160-year old medical institution, and call for the prompt reversal of this action. We are alarmed at the risk to the health and safety of our patients, and the entire lower West Side community. We question the wisdom, safety and honesty with which this action has been taken.
We call on Governor Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines to place an immediate hold on any further action until a full study can be made of the reasons, method and integrity with which this action has been pursued. Further, we express our heartfelt commitment to this community which many of us have served for as many as thirty years or more, and our promise to do all we can to continue to protect, treat and heal until we are no longer able to do so.

My grandmother went here for 30 years. It’s part of the neighborhood identity. Greed is ruining this city.
Worked there for 10 years. We need this place open. Do not shut us down.
Unbelievable. Another historic spot being paved over for luxury condos probably. Local residents actually need medical care not more overpriced studios.
ST VINCENT'S IS ESSENTIAL. STOP THE CLOSURE NOW.
This hospital saved my life after my accident. You cant just close it down and leave the whole west side without an ER. This is insane.

Ridiculous. Where are people supposed to go in an emergency. The closest hospital is miles away in traffic. Think about the patients for once.
