Save Recess in CyFair

We, the parents and concerned citizens of students in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, do petition the CFISD Schoolboard to REQUIRE ALL elementary schools to adhere to a minimum of 25 minutes ON THE PLAYGROUND. We understand that there is a one hour block set aside for Lunch/Recess and we respectfully petition that all campuses utilize this time fully.  We ask that NO ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC COURSEWORK such as SILENT READING / DEAR / SECOND STEP take the place of our children's RECESS. We ask the district to respectfully consider that RECESS falls under the childs right to play act, and should be given a minimum duration of 25 minutes ON the PLAYGROUND. We, the undersigned, do believe that RECESS is an integral part of creating a successful and more focused student as well as a healthy and well rounded child as has been stated in scientific case studies across the country. Schools shortening recess from 30 minutes on the playground to as little as 10 or 15 minutes on the playground is happening in the majority of schools in Cy-Fair. We feel this decision to support a shortened RECESS does not best serve the needs of our children.
