Save Kidz Aware
Kidz Aware is a registered charity, charity number 111859, which was set up three years ago in Wakefield to help to ensure that all children with a disability have the opportunities to achieve their aspirations in life. However we have just been informed by the WMDC that they are not renewing our £10, 00 contract with them to deliver our Count me in Disability Equality awareness educational puppet programme into 50 schools in this area, due to lack of available funding. The monies received from this contract allowed us to provide our services to families of disabled children free, through our advice and information point, training courses, advocacy and social events Unless we find funding or sponsorship of any kind in the next three months we have no option but to close our services and the 250 families we support will not be able to access independent services like ours as we advocate on behalf of the families and also provide them with the necessary free training skills they need. Our services are vital to the many families that rely on us and each day we receive more calls for help, however we do not receive funding from statutory services and are trying to become sustainable to be able to continue with our much needed work and this is why we are contacting you You may be aware that Wakefield has the highest rate of disabled children and yet has received the lowest score for provision this is why our services are needed. OPCS prevalence estimations: Wakefield has 2400 disabled children; 900 of which have more complex needs. We currently have 250 families on our database that require help and advice and support . Without your help and support these families will have nowhere to go to be able to fight for their children rights and this will make it impossible for them to manage, as there is many barriers faced by these families and we are the only independent organisation they trust and is peer lead by the disabled children and their families. Please sign this petition to stop Kidz Aware closing down.
