As of February 1st, 2018, Dunbar CC will no longer offer Childminding services. Many parents and caregivers consider this program to be an important service which has enabled them to use the centre. This essential service has provided parents with the time to exercise, relax, or catch up on work while connected to the centres wifi. With less than one month's notice, parents will no longer have access to this much needed service.

Unfortunately, Dunbar's current program schedule does not provide alternative supervision/programs to most non-school aged children during its current childminding hours (Mon, Wed, & Fri 8:45am - 10:45am). Dunbar is the last community centre to offer childminding on the West Side of Vancouver. The closure of this program will force parents to switch to private fitness clubs or perhaps forgo exercise all together. Lets keep Dunbar's community happy & healthy, please sign this petition and show your support for our families!!

The groundswell of support for the childminding program is a clear reflection of how vital this service is to our community. This momentum demonstrates that we are not alone in our desire to keep families active and connected at Dunbar.

So disappointing. Dunbar saves me and my sanity by allowing me a short break from kids to work out alone. I believe this is happening because of decreased revenue, but this should be a subsidized essential program and public service as there are so few similar options out there. Also, I won’t be able to provide revenue to Dunbar’s gym now as I won’t be able to go. Please reconsider.

Please save the DCC childminding. This service was critical to my physical and mental health and well-being when I was a full time stay at home mother of four in Dunbar. I did not have a high income and was eventually a single parent, and the ability to excercise in my community got me through a very difficult period of my life. Not everyone in Dunbar can afford independent childcare. Please don’t shut this service down. In fact it should be spread to other community centres that exist to SERVE THE COMMUNITY. Thank you.

Child minding at Dunbar is such a valuable service for our community - supporting families and children. The speed at which the decision was made and lack of consultation is surprising. Dunbar community centre association is a not for profit society therfore their rationale of it not making money does not make sense.

This service is a life saver for me, please reconsider this decision. Being able to have a hour to go to the gym while my two girls are being looked after has been so helpful, especially as we do not have any family nearby.

The babysitting service was a lifesaver for me with three children. It provided an opportunity for me to get a break, meet other mothers in the neighbourhood, feel supported and get some exercise. Also for the children meeting one another to play with which were friendships formed that lasted for many years thereafter .

As an older mum when I had my son , the childminding service at DCC saved my sanity. I didn't have family that could give me a break- only the DCC childminding. Well worth having-:)
