We, the undersigned, ask Harvard University to respect the legacy of the American Repertory Theatre by selecting an artistic director who will continue to create challenging, forward-thinking, innovative, experimental work. For the last 28 years, the ART has been one of the few American theatres to pioneer and advocate for the American and international avant-garde. It is crucial to Boston and the advancement of the medium across the nation that ART is allowed to continue to take risks, re-interpret classic texts, and develop new work. While we recognize the importance and difficulty of maintaining a financially stable institution, it must not be at the expense of the work.
