We need to STOP the extraction of 10-40 million cubic meters of sand from Cozumel shallows. This sand will be used to refill the beaches of Cancun and Playa del Carmen wich eroded due to negligent development and will erode again... While it has taken nature hundreths of thousands of years in creating these shallows, it can take man a few days to create irreversible damage. They serve as natural barrier to the island against hurricaines and winter storms. As well as incubators for protected marine life, the sand also helps maintain the fragile ecosystem of the mangroves that are the breeding grounds for the reefs south of the island... Cozumel's main attraction!! So PLEASE by signing this petition YOU can help us STOP this ecological threat that could destroy a natural paradise if carried out.
