Milwaukee River Petition: Halt Trail Cutting through Wildlife Habitat and Repair the Main Trail
We support Milwaukee River Advocates’ efforts to halt any new trail cutting in wildlife habitat on the west bank of the Milwaukee River from Locust St. to Capitol Dr. We also strongly support allowing MRA, with the sanction of the Parks Dept, to maintain the main trail so it's sustainable.
This is a fragile Primary Environmental Corridor. Cutting new trails divides and destroys undisturbed habitat for native wildlife. This is also a migratory corridor, and home of wild and endangered plants and animals.
We ask the County Parks Dept. to end plans to cut new trails which would increase environmental degradation of this fragile and largely well preserved, natural area.

Resident of this river neighborhood for 40 years. Walked that trail many hundreds of times. It is fine without further clearing. Leave it be for birds and nature.
I oppose the cutting of new trails for any reason. The existing trail needs to be maintained so it's sustainable and enforcement of the no biking rule must accompany this. 20 years ago the trail didn't have these problems. Once it became a biking destination, all that changed. Get the bikes off, and respect the space that wildlife inhabits
I used to live along the river for many years. The area is home to some rare, indigenous plants. Please stop cutting new trails and repair the old one...
The Milwaukee River is home to many birds and animals, it is also a major migratory bird corridor with many endangered birds migrating through. Trail cutting would be very destructive to this wonderful and fragile sanctuary right in the heart of our city!
I completely support this proposal. Maintenance will not only preserve the habitats and the niches that wildlife - animals and plants - has established in this urban oasis, but will likely be much more cost effective.
GOD-willing, the wildlife habitat along the Milwaukee River will be saved.
other beings other then the human live and need this havbitat to survive..let's protect them and not destrou plants and other creatures in the valley..leave it alone and what is the agenda of the county to continue this destruction --perhaps a coal mine is underneath these soils?

I lived close to this footpath for 23 years and still walk it nearly every time I come back to town. It is a treasure that should be a national model for urban natural areas, not a mountain bike path.
