Save Wildlife Habitat along the Milwaukee River

GOD-willing, the wildlife habitat along the Milwaukee River will be saved.

other beings other then the human live and need this havbitat to survive..let's protect them and not destrou plants and other creatures in the valley..leave it alone and what is the agenda of the county to continue this destruction --perhaps a coal mine is underneath these soils?

I love this spot and consider it important to the neighborhood.

This portion of the river is finally coming back to life. Let's continue to give it a chance to grow and change naturally without expanding with new trails.

I lived close to this footpath for 23 years and still walk it nearly every time I come back to town. It is a treasure that should be a national model for urban natural areas, not a mountain bike path.

Please don't cut any new trail on the west bank of the Milwaukee River from Locust to Capitol...it's a fragile wildlife area.

We need to keep MORE areas natural, not cut through them or degrade them.

This is the nurturing beauty setting where I raised my son. I want it to be there for seven generations to come.

Resident of this river neighborhood for 40 years. Walked that trail many hundreds of times. It is fine without further clearing. Leave it be for birds and nature.

Once these precious wild spaces within the city are gone we won't get them back. Please don't cut more trails. Preserve this wilderness.

Please maintain the original trail and refrain from creating new ones. We need to keep the area as free of intrusion as we can.

Keep it simple and natural

I am a bicyclist, but also a student of nature. I understand how turf is fashioned by water and the seasons, and how riparian animals and plants come to depend on and flourish in this space. Take away the turf, crowd the animals, interfere with natural water flow into the river with tire tracks that cut into the soil and, yes, plants and animals will yield to yet another human intrusion, so unnecessary. We bicyclists need to understand we are welcome on the trail, but our mechanical mode of transportation is doing damage. Walk with me; I want to show you what you cannot see at bicycle speed. And to my beloved government, cutting a trail to make access easier is beyond belief for a government office charge to care for these natural spaces. Please do not bicycle on this fragile turf. Please enforce the "no biking" ordinance on the books. Respect the thousands of years of natural development along our river. Love the water; love the turf, love the wildlife. And walk softly.

I oppose the cutting of new trails for any reason. The existing trail needs to be maintained so it's sustainable and enforcement of the no biking rule must accompany this. 20 years ago the trail didn't have these problems. Once it became a biking destination, all that changed. Get the bikes off, and respect the space that wildlife inhabits

I strongly oppose cutting any new trails on either side of the river. There are signs on the east side of the river saying "no mountain biking" and yet there are still mountain bikers all the time. I live on the east side of the river, about a block away from the oak leaf trail. Until just recently when I saw the "no mountain biking" sticker on the path marker, I thought the east side of the river was actually designated for mountain biking. I think it makes sense to have one side of the river (the east side of it) kind of the common place for mountain biking and to keep the west side more pristine.

I am a grandmother and former teacher/naturalist. For many years I have taken children and grandchildren to this section of the river trail to help them learn and grow. Consistent with the Southeast Wisconsin Regional Land Use Plan, the integrity of this resource must be maintained for future generations. Please work with MRA to this end, allowing for safe and quiet utilization along the main trail.

It is so very important to protect these wild places. So many animals depend on them, and the space really needs to be uninterupted space for the animals and plants to thrive. Please respect the land and animals and just maintain the existing trail.

Please protect this wildlife heritage, and the riverbank itself.

To the county. We have enough trails and roads.. stop any plans to cut and kill and increase access to humans into these precious and rare living spaces.. ?Save them for the others creatures that call this home.. No to more trails,

I urge the County Parks Dept. to repair and maintain the existing main trail and not to cut more trails. This is precious habitat. Thank you.
