Save Watford Bowls Club - a vital community hub

We would miss this bowls club immensely if it were to close. This facility provides recreation and social benefits to many many people who travel fairly long distances to come and enjoy a game of bowls .We live in a time when older people often feel forgotten and these clubs help many to feel valued

This is not just a Bowls club it's place were people meet and get out socially.

This club provides companionship and exercise for older people and encouragement for new and younger people. Therefore a great meeting place where people can play a game and then share a drink or have a meal together. This is also a thriving competitive club of mixed ages who compete at local county and national level thus spreading the enjoyment for members and public alike. People join this club from the surrounding area, and as it is in Watford the shopping facilities are well used after our activities. This is advantageous to us and the Watford shops and amenities. It’s closure will be a lose to everyone. Many older people will not be able to bowl and will become less mobile if it wasn’t for Watford Indoor Bowls and it’s support and could cause more pressure on the NHS through health and mobility problems. Bowling is a great indoor leisure opportunity for all ages but older people like to remain active especially when one cannot play football tennis and similar activities. So please save Watford Indoor Bowls Club. It is much needed.

I feel that the council do not care about older people, who pay their council taxes the same as anyone else. It is all about the younger people nowadays. This is a vital meeting place for people.

This club is an important part of the local community bringing together a large percentage of older people who would otherwise become socially isolated.

With all the recommendations that the health service issues, like help for those less able, keeping active and thereby keeping fit, getting out and meeting new people and making new friends in an club that gives so much more to many Watford residents. WIBC should not be considered as a way for making Watford Council more money. The 'other facility' cannot accommodate our number and is not accessible by public transport. I suppose the council expects those who cannot travel to just vegetate while suffering day time TV and clogging up social services or the local surgery. Keep WIBC open, it is a valuable asset.

This is not only a sports facility, but provides an important social amenity for some of the senior generations, now and hopefully in the future.

Please save the bowling club. It is a great source of enjoyment to many people

The Government tells us to keep active to remain healthy, how does closing amenities support that objective? Watford Council appear to have their own agenda on closing local amenities, they tried closing the allotments and lost that cause, now a popular and well supported bowls club that provides a disproportionate contribution to council funds. Where will this all end?

This is an essential club which is especially important to older people in our community. I work as a hospital & community navigator & these types of club are a lifeline to older clients helping to keep them active and reduce social isolation & in turn reducing the need for NHS services.

Could this be the birth of another Council-led White Elephant?

This club is an essential part of my and many other lives.

keep this place for the older generation who thrive in situations where they get to bond and connect with other people doing the sport they love.
