We need your support to Save Vivekananda Ashramam Brickfields from losing its heritage and from being defaced.

The Star 16 Oct 2014 brought the shocking news that the 110 year old Vivekananda Ashramam in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia will be redeveloped with a 23 storey residential tower built over it. The reason sighted by the Trustees who made this horrendous decision is for MONEY. Money to carry out the Trustees noble program to better serve the community in the true spirit of Vivekananda's true teachings. The unanswered question is how much MONEY do they need to fulfill their objectives? Did the Trustees look at other options to raise the MONEY? Didn't the Trustees realize all the MONEY will not save a heritage left behind by our forefathers? Does putting a ugly looking residential tower over the building amount to saving our heritage? How many heritage sites do we need to destroy all because we have in our midst MONEY mongers who are not interested in engaging stakeholders to look at other viable options? Why the secrecy in closing this deal without a public discourse? All Malaysians who want to save our historical sites for future generations need to support this move to save the Ashramam. All followers of Swami Vivekananda's teachings across the world need to weigh in to stop these Trustees from executing their despicable plan. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT PLEASE!!!

The increase in momentum has prompted a formal request for a meeting with the Board of Trustees to discuss alternative funding models for the site. I am currently drafting a letter to the local planning authorities to demand a stay on the redevelopment permit while we present these findings.

Doesn't the government have regulations on demolishing buildings that are over 100 years old ?

Save the building....it is not just a building...it us the pride and dignity of the Malaysian Indian....If our leaders cannot save this heritage building then how will they safe guard Malaysian Indian...
I resided in Brickfilelds for almost 25 years. Vivekananda Ashram brings so many sweet memories of those years. Brickfields has lost its charm with all the development and face-lifts. It will lose its soul with Vivekananda Ashram gone!
Shame on the Trustees who are doing this for MONEY. Every Vivekananda follower should oppose them.
