The Worcestershire County Council has formally rescinded the proposed budget cuts to the Archive and Archaeology Service. We will remain in contact with the department to monitor the restoration of funding and ensure that these essential resources stay protected moving forward.

Our award winning Archive and Archaeology Service which provides educational, cultural, local and family history resources is under attack! Worcestershire County Council has cut the Service's budget allocation by almost 36%.
Such a swingeing cut will destroy the Archive Service as it now exists!
This will:
- affect children's education
- delay or curtail planning applications and appeals
- damage research opportunities for local and family historians
- hinder outstanding students' research projects
There is the potential for our Archive Service to win further national awards, receive more bursaries and make more money to finance its vital work. Let's give our Archive Staff a chance.

We have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the County Council lead members regarding the budget allocation. I am currently compiling a detailed report on the operational risks these cuts pose to the archive service for our presentation.

The volume of support has secured us a formal meeting with the council cabinet members next week. We are currently finalizing a briefing document that outlines the specific economic impact of these budget cuts to present during our discussion.

I volunteer for the National Trust at Croome. The Hive holds the Coventry family archive. It is vital that the Hive remains fully open so that we can access the archive to learn more of the history of the Coventry family. We can tell our visitors more.
Please save this service- it has supported learning in my school. How can young people appreciate Heritage without this? Looking back makes looking forward meaningful- if we are to support identity, history and culture we must maintain this Service.
The Archive Service is an essential and vital educational and history resource. In particular, it administers the Croome archive which must be fully accessible to all under the terms by which it was given to the Archive Service.
I strongly object to the cutting of the budget that goes towards our valuable archives at The Hive. This is very backward thinking as this resource and the access to it enhances the life of Worcester and its residents as well as across the county.
My mother has accessed this service frequently over the last 15 years for her family history and U3A research projects, including WW1 memorial work commissioned in 2018. It would be a huge loss to history enthusiasts to be unable to access the records.

Living in New Zealand where archival material is much more recent we appreciate the immense and irreplaceable value of archived material available in England. Please maintain the Worcestershire Archives and Service provided for future generations.
