Final supporters
The Bureau of Street Services has received a permit request to remove 4 mature trees along Amherst Ave near the corner of Amherst & Gorham Avenues in Brentwood, CA. The reason, Street Widening, two Palm Trees, a Juniper Tree on Amherst, and a 4th tree, the magnificent Camphor Tree on the NW corner of Gorham and Amherst.
This is a condition that was forced upon the developer that is currently building the units on the corner lot.The City's own records confirm that Amherst does NOT carry a traffic load, making the destruction of these mature trees pointless.

I spent the morning staring at that beautiful Camphor tree and just trying to figure out how anyone could look at it and decide it needs to come down for a road that no one even uses. My inbox is full of your notes about how much these trees mean to our neighborhood and honestly reading them while the city stays quiet is the only thing keeping me focused right now.

Don't we need more oxygen? Isn't it necessary to keep our body and environment healthy?!! Why should we cut beautiful trees that are healthy and will help the environment and our body?! as a health care professional, I definitely see this act unnecessary and more harmful!
Unless these trees are diseased, they offer shade, which reduces electric need for air conditioning, habitat for birds, beauty in an ever increasing concrete and urban landscape. The city makes exceptions all the time so why cannot they do the same for this project?
One of the beauties and joys of otherwise overbuilt and densely populated South Brentwood is the abundance and variety of mature trees. They must never be sacrificed, especially when there is absolutely no need.
Removing trees and requiring widening of a 60 yd half block segment of Amherst is totally wrong from an environmental, traffic, neighborhood serenity and beauty not to mention unnecessary community disruption. This requirement should be rescinded to preserve the community beauty and serenity.
There is not much traffic on this section of Amherst, the street does not need widening. Therefore the trees do not need to be cut down. Use the money to fix our sidewalks please.
Our neighborhoods need more green, not less.
These trees should not be removed. They add tremendous value to the neighborhood. Removal of these trees will create a starkness and is unnecessary.

Everyone loves the trees on their blocks, they provide color and shade and beautify the streets. taking them out will decrease the property values, what point is there in this action. I have seen other cities build around the old trees and it looks great, instead of stripping the trees for blacktop and cement streets and sidewalks.
