The cafe is a great, healthy, a much valued and needed addition to life at Loughton. It would be cruel to take it away and replace it with unhealthy and lifeless machines.

The community life of university is an essential part of the experience that should be provided considering student fees being paid for the whole experience.
There would be ways to innovate the provision to make it socially viable.

We should be investing into our community spaces instead of taking them away. How can we expect fruitful collaboration between cohorts if they don't have a sufficient shared space to meet?

Seems like a backwards step and a move away from the sense of community the place offers. Also loss of staff the human touch when dealing with complicated dietary requirements. The vending machines are slow and unreliable meaning that the queues for food will be intolerable. The result will be many students using their hour break to walk into Debden to get food rather than spending time together as a cohort. I also believe there’ll be a significant impact on students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The SU is the core of our campus community. Significant value will be lost if the cafe is shuttered.

If you get rid of the SU, you get rid of the heart of the social life at the campus. What a shame it would be if it’s no longer there!

Vending machine just aren’t enough food for us to be able to take on the days of training. We also don’t have enough time to leave campus to get food. I

The SU is an essential part of out student experience. We are a small school and the SU team are an integral part of our East 15 community. Throughout my time at East 15 I've seen SU prices go up and up and the support for the staff dramatically reduced. The SU needs to be saved not destroyed! Additionally, the Corbett Theatre needs a bar for performances and student events, this can't be operated without staff. Visitors of the school should be able to purchase food and drinks just like any other theatre or university.

The SU is not only a social hub for all students at East 15, but it's also a source of income for the staff that work there. They love it here, they love us and we love them. That shouldn't be taken away for financial reasons, this is people's lives we are talking about. Cut something else, don't take away the staffs jobs, you're sacrificing their livelihood.

Our students work long, busy hours at a course that requires our attendance 9/5:30 every day (and often longer). To not provide a hot meal for those without the chance to provide their own food is appalling and harmful.
Further more the SU provides drinks and refreshments for our Corbett theatre, a vital part of our entire campus that ensures the success of East 15. From a purely professional, business and image based stand point, to not provide refreshments at a performance would be unprofessional and impact our chances of finding jobs and success as industry professionals, agents and casting directors, as well as family who travelled far to see our performances use the SU canteen facilities. The SU is at the core of our East 15 life and campus and we will fight to keep what is vital to us.

Absolutely disgusted to hear about this. Not only would this be stripping away a fundamental part of the university experience, and ruining people’s access to food at breaks and lunch, but it would also be taking jobs away from the lovely ladies who work in the SU. Is it not bad enough that the SU closes ridiculously early and is a shell of what it once was? University of Essex, what a joke. We know have the money.

For an area that is not catered for the students who live there, there is already very little available space for us to be that is both welcoming and affordable. The SU has slowly been cutting hours and increasing prices, put increased pressure on a group of people that have no where else to go really.
I need to be fed!
