Please read - That plan, which is only optional at this point, “involves cutting a chunk of the Rocky steps so a roughly 24-foot-high window can be inserted halfway up. It would form the east wall of the new gallery and offer views of the skyline,”according to theInquirer. Inga Saffron expressed support for the option, saying “toying with the iconic steps is sure to be controversial, but the museum should be allowed one daring move.”

To be clear, this petition is against the final faze of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps, not the inside renovations.

These steps represent Hope to millions around the world. They bring people together with a shared reason to believe in themselves. To want to try. They come to these steps for many reasons; they just beat cancer or they just got married or divorced or felt the need to be surrounded by other like-minded individuals who want to try to achieve something more than what they were told they could. They understand life can be complex and brutal, yet the steps put things into perspective; you practice, you try, you learn, you achieve.

Locals and tourist alike flock to these steps daily to "prove themselves". The steps define who we are because they force us to challenge ourselves if we are willing to try and climb them.

In the words of Sylvester Stallone from the book, Rocky Stories, "When you train for Rocky, you basically train for yourself. Because we are underdogs. And there's very few things, iconic situations, that are accessible. You can't borrow Superman's cape. You can't swing a Jedi lightsaber. But the steps are there, accessible."

The steps are a true work of art that inspires it's visitors to achieve against the longest of odds.

Please, don't change them.

Please consider- Those steps are a symbol; a symbol to help us become what we dream - to be better. Maybe not the best in THE WORLD but the best in OUR OWN WORLD. The steps are like a sandstone psychiatrist allowing us to visit with doubt, and insecurity, brining our beast of burdens and finding a way to leash them. The steps quiet the voice of fear and refusal, encouraging dignity and hope. We leave knowing we paid our way with sweat and determination, allowing us to move forward with conviction and strength of purpose. The power of dignity grows with use. The more we give ... The more we get. Each step a metaphoric statement in a life. Pushing, breathing, living. Cultist prevail and measure their wins against the steps. The steps are an American grit, an homage to every nobody who became or hoped to become a somebody. The steps play to our hopes. Our hopes against making it. Or, at least, trying to make it. Our back-breaking level of training, practicing, performing for the top shelf is reflected in the steps ascent. The steps reach to the heavens and when we’re there so do we. I dare you to run them and not “Rocky” in a pirouette. When we watch Rocky train, we’re watching ourself train. Rocky and the steps are the sum total of American-can-do. It’s our backbone; it’s our blood. It’s our symbol. Please, help save the Rocky steps.

I am not sure if the project is still forth coming but I would like to see the steps saved. They are an Iconic piece of the Philadelphia landmarks. I want to be able to come to Philly and see those steps and know they are there! Too many movie icons are ruined in the name of progress! PLEASE PLEASE Keep the steps the way they are!!!!!

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of. Why would you consider destroying such an iconic monument? Makes no sense!
