Recently McCombs Enterprises announced their intent to close the equestrian center at The Reserve at Lake Travis and repurpose the area to include development of 20+ cottages.
We the undersigned homeowners, lot owners, tenants of the equestrian center, neighbors of The Reserve, and other interested parties OBJECT TO THIS ACTION to remove the cornerstone amenity, and subsequent plan to re-develop the property.
- The equestrian center has been marketed as a unique amenity, setting The Reserve apart from other lake communities.
- Homeowners, lot owners, and prospective new buyers relied on the existence of the equestrian center when making decisions to buy and build at the Reserve.
- Existing lot owners made site selection decisions based on proximity to the equestrian center.
- The community and property values at The Reserve will be negatively affected by this decision.
- Future homeowners, currently negotiating purchases have stated they WILL NOT proceed with their decision to purchase in The Reserve based on this announcement.
- Existing homeowners purchased with the prospect of taking lessons and/or owning a horse in the future and boarding those horses at the equestrian center.
- The equestrian center currently serves 30 families through boarding and lessons, who will be displaced by this decision.
It is the demand of the petitioners that McCombs Enterprises leave the equestrian center in tact as the amenity that creates the uniqueness of The Reserve.

We recently purchased a home in The Reserve with no knowledge of the equestrian center closing. Had we know the center was being replaced with cottages we probably would have purchased elsewhere. The significance of this event should have been disclosed.
When we bought into the Reserve, Donnie Garcia explained to us that the Equestrian Center is what made the development unique and justified the high prices of the properties as compared to other communities on the Lake. You have defrauded everyone that has bought property in the Reserve.
This barn is where I spend more than 15 hours every week, and dedicate my heart to. I have learned so much more than just horsemanship, I have learned about responsibility, friendship, and love. Tear the barn down, take our memories down with it.
Please do not close the beautiful, charming equestrian center. I board two horses there and my daughter goes to horse camp in the summer! The only reason my family and I have rented a cottage there and spend money at The Grill and the pool is due to my horses being there and the summer camp.
Very bad PR for the developer. Sell your clients on amenities and then take them away? It smacks of legal bait and switch. You will seriously diminish the appeal when amenities begin to disappear. Then it becomes just luxury housing no longer deserving of the term resort.
It was heartbreaking news to learn that the Barn at the Reserve will be closing. Our son's family owns a horse that boards there. Our visit to their home is never complete without a trip out to the Reserve. This barn at the Reserve was a major factor in the location of their present home. It would be an aesthetic disaster to tear down this natural preserve for more buildings.
We purchased a home and relocated our family from Denver, CO. We looked at the Reserve as a slower pace of life and better environment for our children. The equestrian center was what made our decision to purchase a home in the Reserve instead of Angel Bay or The Coves. We were never informed about the possibility of future funds running dry for this "amenity" we would be paying for. "Every neighborhood has a pool, but only the Reserve has a horse barn!"
