The St Mary’s play was always a trip we would take from St. Ignatius during the winter season. I feel that it has always been a part of my life and I feel others have similar experiences. I say save the play!

No one should have be restricted from perusing their passions and interests.

I have long been acquainted with St. Mary’s Academy and their long history of phenomenal school musicals. My sister Victoria Dowhan attended there for all six years graduating in 2017. Many of my friends, from my age to her’s, have participated in St. Mary’s productions, and it would be a disgrace to alumni and current students, among other participants, to reduce the amount of productions. Arts are always the first to be cut, so please don’t let St. Mary’s, who puts on some of best productions of any school in Winnipeg, follow that pattern.

Students at this school have various interests and it is extremely unfair for their passion to be put on the back seat and break the news that it'll only take place every two years

The play is the most exciting part of the school year and everyone should have the chance to be apart or experience it every single year

whenever ihms attended your productions, it was always the highlight of my winter season! they were part of what made me take up musical theatre at my studio and cemented my plans in pursuing it in highschool. thank you for inspiring me for so long

Look forward to seeing all the girls excited for their yearly performance, would be a shame to take it away every second year. please reconsider. Theatre and expressing yourself is a way of life for a lot of these young girls. Wouldn’t be fair to take it away from them.

Hmm how can we make the SMA musicals even more competitive and toxic than they already are? I know! Give the students even less of an opportunity to participate so they have to fight for spots! That’ll do wonders for the sense of community and school spirit

This play changed my life and so many others. I speak for so many people in that when I didn’t feel like I had anything else, I had drama. All of my memories at SMA are from this play and this program. Drama has given me the opportunity for growth and has given me a sisterhood I will cherish for forever. Please don’t take away our outlet to be expressive and creative, as well as the experiences so many young girls will gain.

everyone deserves a way of expression and should be able to execute it in any way especially in school a place of learning and development.

Ah yes, please get rid of the only thing that brought me joy in high school. Classic. Current students will love it.

The productions at SMA are the not only the most inclusive activity the school offers, but are the extracurricular that involve the largest portion of the student body. This decision will have negative repercussions affecting so many people. The musicals are extremely important to us and bring so much happiness to those involved. We gain invaluable skills, experience, and memories that will last us a lifetime. I know I'm not alone when I say that being part of these amazing productions is my favourite part of attending SMA. I hope this decision is thoroughly reconsidered.

yeah, when we asked for more regular plays along with the musicals... this is not what we meant. If it’s too much work for teachers to run, find some alumnae / parent volunteers, or hire someone to direct. Cutting back on the one art department at SMA that gets any attention is ridiculous.
