The historic Parks Building/Jeremiah Payne House is in jeopardy of being demolished.

The Preserve Historic Dahlonega (PHD) Committee, a group of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County concerned citizens respectfully asks the Dahlonega City Council to deny Roberta Green’s Garrett's appeal for demolition of the Parks Building, located at 40 East Main Street, Dahlonega, Ga.

This historic 1840 building needs to be preserved. This is not just our belief but also that of renown historical architectural firm, Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS), commissioned to assess the condition of the building. The LAS report, dated Sept. 23, 2015, used the City’s Historic Preservation Ordinance as a guideline for their recommendations.

The Dahlonega Historic Commission at the October 21st HPC meeting ruled that the building has significant historical value and should be preserved and not be demolished.

We ask that you sign this petition to show your support to keep our town the a pristine, historic destination for which we are known.
