I find the whole situation rather unnerving. Who sets up a closed, unannounced meeting...? This sounds at best illegal.
We support wholeheartedly the current committee and the great work that the current committee has done l ed by Ms. Comrie.

I don't understand why the board would want to disband the landscape committee which is comprised of homeowners who want to improve the phase. My mother in law lives full time in the phase and the beauty of the property is important to her, as it is me. I've noticed a meaningful improvement in recent years. Please bring back this committee. Thanks.

Hi Promans, I understand that only three of them were present in the Executive Session, which is confidential, so we probably will never get the full story. Exec Session, I recall, is for things like delinquencies, contracts, and other sensitive issues that should not be shared broadly with all homeowners--not about a the existence of a popular Committee that does a lot of work. The Board members put themselves in this position where now we are all wondering what they were thinking, and they can't tell us without violating the confidentiality of the Exec Session. If any Board Member tells you about it, you should ask them to resign, right?

Any action related to the Landscape Committee is not a proper topic for Executive Session. The Code identifies six specific items, and whether to create or abolish a standing committee like the Landscape Committee is not one of those topics.

We are waiting for the explanation of this decision from the board before we can objectively sign the petition. They are all rational people that do not deserve to be "thrown under the bus" before being heard. They give their time and work hard for us too.

I agree--in my experience on the Board for 10+ years the Exec Session was never used ever to discuss the existence of a committee.

Per your last point, it's hard to know when the actions were taken in an Executive Session and the Board has not sent out regular meeting minutes in over a year.

For those neighbors reading the comments and not sure if they should sign, ask yourself if you like the idea of calling PPM for all your landscape requests. How quickly do you think they would be able to respond?
If you think a volunteer board of interested homeowners who donate their time, energy and expertise is preferable to PPM, sign the petition.
If you think it's not right that the Board would make a decision like this without any of our input, sign the petition.
If you think that eliminating the Committee would negatively impact the appearance of our property, sign the petition.

If the Board or some its members act contrary to the wishes of the homeowners, the homeowners should consider (1) calling a special meeting of members to discuss the Board's action in a public forum, and (2) proposing a change in the Bylaws re-establishing the Landscape Committee and requiring the Board to seek the approval of a majority of members before abolishing the committee. Further, to the extent that members believe that one or more members of the Board has acted improperly, the members should exercise their authority to remove such director(s).

Sandy is a real asset to our phase 5 & puts all of her energy in making our grounds & flower beds breathtaking! We all can be proud of the work she has done. This decision should of been a open floor discussion , not a closed door meeting.

I cannot understand how our board could eliminate a committee that provides so much support to our community. To risk rolling back the gains we have made over the past couple years is illogical.

Sandy is a fantastic landscaper. She helped us with our new yard and got us the lowest price possible. She followed up and made sure we were pleased. Please keep the committee going they do a great job, and we need Sandy to head it up with her talent.
