The city has officially withdrawn the proposal for the apartment project. My hands are shaking from relief because this fight took everything out of me. We have saved the oaks, but we must stay vigilant to ensure no similar plans surface again.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens of the city of McHenry who oppose the 288 Apartment Project to be built behind Aldi's by Continental Properties. This project provides no benefit to the city of McHenry and will destroy our property values, our quiet and tranquil neighborhoods, increase traffic along the Rt 31 corridor, increase crime, flooding and place a heavy burden on our sewer and drainage systems. The project will also create a tax deficiency which will be assessed among the already overtaxed citizens of McHenry.

The local planning office keeps avoiding my inquiries about the drainage studies but I am not dropping this. Reviewing the project plans again confirms exactly why this development is a mistake for our neighborhood.

Reaching this point has been a grind and my energy is running low but seeing so many of you join this fight keeps me moving forward. It is clear more people see the risks this development poses to our streets and our homes. We have a mountain to climb ahead but we are finally getting some attention.

This apartment complex is just way to big if built my family will be forced to sell the house we raised our children and move.
I lived on Pine Dr for 12 years. This is a quiet neighborhood and it should stay that way. I always felt safe playing in the neighborhood and going on walks as I grew up. To think of a ton of more people moving in to cause more traffic and more noise makes me upset. It's been my goal to buy my childhood home but I really wouldn't if the neighborhood changed in such a drastic way. It wouldn't be what I remember. Not to mention I lived for that hill behind the old Sears. I have so many memories in that field and on the hill... there's wildlife that lives in that cornfield and beyond! I would watch them with my friends... I can't imagine someone building property on top of that forever.
This is a nice quiet neighborhood. Been here 20 years. I honestly would like to sit out front .say hi our neighbors ,without traffic flying up and down our streets. I don't mind progress but it should not intrude on the people that already live here.
I strongly oppose this proposed project. I just moved onto Chestnut Dr. One of the areas that will be directly impacted by this project. I have very young children & fear that they will be exposed to crime, drugs & a whole lot if the project is allowed to go through.
This property is not zoned for High Density residential buildings. The builder has less than favorable ratings on many sites. Better Business Bureau is 1 of them. There is no positive outcome for the city as a whole.
We need small to medium business not housing
We want single-family homes, Not apartment buildings

No apartments please! Rethink & do small homes similar to the ones behind JC Penney. Great for first time buyers or seniors!
