Without this great Mary pit I wouldn’t be here, this brought both my mum & dads family from Ireland to Ballingry/Lochore & Glencraig. They all moved here in the early 1900’s to work in this pit, some even lost their lives.

It will be a huge mistake for Fife Council to let this mining monument fall completely as it is integral to the fabric of the park I remember the coal bings and the massive excavators that came to turn this mining wasteland into the park it has become.

Please save the monument from further decay it is an integral landmark dipicting the hardships that miners' endured! A horrible story that from its origins to its ruins still leaves an impact today on our local community it represents from 'destruction to beauty!'

I have stated as Cllr McLelland that regardless where the funds come from they should be found to save this vital piece of our heritage. Our Dads, Granddads & Great Granddads would be so disappointed if we let this great Lady Die.

Ex Cllr Lochgelly Cardenden ...lots of friends and acquaintances in Ballingry. After generations of life's toil in the mines and even death....surely its not much to ask in return....a few pounds to salute the memory of the reason Ballingry exists.

The headgear of this colliery (which I started working at aged 15) should be maintained and protected. There are only 6 sets of headgear in Scotland where there were hundreds at one time. They stand as memorials to the men and women who worked and died in the mines.
