Please consider keeping the courts open. The courts are highly utilized and encourage activity and we all know if people are committed to meeting people like swuash they show-up!

Please don't close the only accesible downtown courts. Squash courts are a must have for any gym I am joining.

This is terrible news for a sport that has continued growth over the past 5-10 years everywhere (north america and worldwide) with the exception of Edmonton, for the single reason that the City has refused to incorporate racquet sports at city subsidized facilities, forcing the private clubs out of business. The squash community has continued to grow in edmonton despite the lack of facilities, and the closure of another major facility's squash courts will ultimately force a decline in participation due to lack of courts, followed by another city council determination of a false indication that interest in racquet sports continues to decline (Council approved 2005 Recreation Facility 10 year Master Plan, recommendation #25) totally opposite of reality. The edmonton squash community depends greatly on the MacEwan facility remaining open (as one of few remaining publically accessible squash facilities) and supporting a large percentage of squash players in Edmonton. At this point in the sport's presence in Edmonton, the MacEwan facility plays an integral part in the survival and growth of squash in Edmonton. If there are no facilities, and no place for new players to gain exposure to one of the best sports in existence, Edmonton will soon become (and is on its way) the black hole of squash in the country, a sad situation. The courts are a valuable asset to the university and public in general and every alternative to closure should be considered.

According to a recent Forbes magazine survey, squash is rated as the #1 healthiest sport. The ranking was based on a national survey of fitness experts (e.g., coaches, personal trainers, competitors, and exercise physiologists).

Please reconsider. For a building that calls itself health and wellness, there are few sports that match the physical demands and benifits of squash.

Rediculous decision. Needs to be reconsidered.

A very short-sited decision. They are treating squash as a liability, instead of the great asset that it is.

It would be a shame that the 'Wellness Centre' contribute to the local demise of a sport. Why can the courts not be utilized during their slow times for other fitness activities and then re-designated for squash during peak times?

Having built the Squash courts I do not understand why remove all of them now. What are the reasons as it seems as many students and members use them.

As I figured. I walkes by the new spin area during our match on Tuesday night and there were three people in the spin class in the already converted court. Obviously the members of the board have never played a game of squash or been in a gym in the last year.

Surely, some alternate space for fitness could be found...it is a huge building.

I could not believe when I heard they were planning on closing the courts. This would be a significant loss to the students and the community at large. Please change your decision!!! Where will all those that use the courts now go to play? What about your students who want to learn or already enjoy the game of squash? Closing all the courts is not fair to those who use them and rely on them. I may convince some students to go to the U of A as they DO HAVE squash courts.

Ages 4-74, this is a great sport for life! It is sad that it is getting harder to play in this capital city.

Keep the squash courts alive - when we are there playing squash on a Saturday morning the court used for spin class is empty - would hate to see the same thing happen on the rest of the courts

It would be a shame for the University to lose the Squash courts as U of C has great courts, SAIT, U of A all have Courts. It is a shame that we will use a sport that young people are playing.
