I know these beautiful trees. It would be criminal to destroy them. I read daily that people drive off of roadways and invariably hit a culvert. No one is proposing to eliminate culverts. Register these trees with the Live Oak Society. We saved a number here at UL that were destined to die for a parking garage.

It takes a very long time for trees of that size and beauty to grow... It would be such a shame to cut them down "just because" there might be an accident or there have been a few through the years :-) Keep the oaks--our lungs need the fresh oxygen they produce!!! Thank you very much

All over the state beautiful old and/or historic trees are being cut down to "improve" roads, expand shopping areas, etc. These trees improve the environment by cleaning and cooling the air, preventing erosion, and are aesthetically pleasing to the eye and create much needed shade during our brutal summers. And those are just a few of the gifts they give to humans. For animals and birds, they are havens for breeding, shelter, and provide food. With the engineering skills and advancements, supposedly available today, building around such valuable trees should be simple. If the generations that came before us could do it, why are those in charge of these projects regressing in handling our building needs. Save the trees, not only these, but all over our state. Pass ordinances within cities that require parking lots and shopping centers and other commercial buildings to preserve trees and plan their constructions accordingly. The city of Mandeville did this years ago and is an excellent model. It's not rocket science, it just takes a little common sense. SAVE THE TREES, PLEASE!

I have a pecan tree that IS a hazard, and DOTD won't cut it down for us. I thought Live Oaks were protected in Louisiana. Good luck!

As we "Leaning Oak Farm" have a motto of getting back to our roots. We believe that preservation of our roots and heritage are very important and anybody that believes in the same ideas and principles should sign this petition.
