I’ve raised 13 puppies to help people with disabilities and it is definitely life changing for the raiser as well as the recipient.

This program teaches students so many valuable lessons to use in life. It also teaches students about volunteering and the joy of doing something for others. Not to mention giving them volunteer hours needed for many jobs and/or higher education.

These people need these dogs. It’s like shutting down handicap parking. Taking somebody’s wheelchair away. Rethink it.

Raising puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind teaches students so much more than just how to train and care for a dog. At a time where there is so much negativity and division in our society, raising a puppy not only teaches responsibility and empathy, but also helps to build confidence and social bridges, and helps students to recognize that they can make a real difference in the world. Please do not cut this important program.

You're closing down critical courses for a CTE pathway. The courses students take open up career paths for them, team them transferrable skills, and give bck to the community. Why does SL District seem determined to shut down every program that has significant positive community impact?

Raising guide dog for the blind puppies was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

I love the passion and interest that this class develops in the students. In an increasingly uncertain job future, cultivating interest in hands on husbandry roles is a great antidote to AI job replacement.

I was a former high school puppy raiser for GDB in Texas, and this program helped shape so much of who I am as an adult!

Raising puppies teaches responsibility, compassion, confidence, and it gives students important volunteer hours which are required for certain career fields. The ability to help others in this way provides a great foundation for all types of careers. As a youth raiser for 8 years and now a leader guiding youth as they raise guide dog puppies, canceling this program leave a huge hole in your community and the volunteer space. At a time when the number of volunteer puppy raisers is at an all time low nationwide we should encourage and uplift those selfless enough to take on this task, not take it away from them. Your students and the puppy raising community are speaking. Listen to them!

Please do not get rid of this crucial program/class in your district. The puppy raising program provides young people a chance to give back to the broader visually impaired community and also teaches leadership skills, responsibility, broader, community service, and Animal care/science interest. Thank you. As a GDB client I know firsthand the depth understanding of what these dogs provide for a clients day-to-day life.

Providing students an opportunity to think beyond themselves through raising a puppy allows them to learn how their actions can truly help and change the life of a visually impaired person. Please allow this program to continue!

Please do not remove this from the school district. This teach so many skills beyond raising a puppy and builds characters such as selflessness, patience and kindness. Valuable positive lifelong lessons are learned.
