As someone who is currently raising a future guide dog for another guide dog organization with my college having a future leader dogs in school is so important to allow dogs to be used to this environment in case they may go to someone in a similar environment

Stopping this program, that didn’t cost the district extra, is short sighted. Puppy raising helps with compassion, empathy, service hours for college applications and helps meet criteria for veterinary courses. Please helps the community with showing a resource that is often overlooked or misunderstood.

I was a teacher in SLCSD, at SLCSE and at West High. These amazing dogs were part of my classroom and in the hallways. I had two that were in my classroom daily last year. They were well behaved, and a positive asset to the learning environment. Further, the responsibility was a catalyst for incredible growth in their handlers, and I feel strongly that this program should be preserved in Salt Lake schools.

This is a wonderful program teaching teens to serve others, be responsible for raising an animal and then giving it to someone with visual impairments.

This program is so good for the students, community and the people that receive the dogs! Things that are learned in this program are so valuable throughout their lives! They learn more about life than anything they can learn otherwise! So sad that someone can’t see all the good these students are doing!

Raising a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind is an incredible experience that fosters responsibility, patience, perseverance, hard work, and time management skills among the raisers. Additionally, you support an amazing nonprofit organization and contribute to empowering visually impaired individuals by increasing their independence. Save this program!

As a volunteer puppy raiser for The Seeing Eye, I have firsthand knowledge of how young raisers are vital to spreading awareness to the cause. Young raisers are active with their puppies and very active with them on social media. They are also likely to continue to raise into their adulthood. Please reconsider and continue to offer these classes and the club.

I personally raised 2 guide dogs at SLCC when in high school. I’m now 24 years old and can say that this program should continue to be available at SLCC as students learn responsibility, patience, and dedication in raising and preparing puppies to becoming a guide dog. Additionally, the GDB program offered in school offers much easier accessibility for students, allowing them to participate in such a program they might not have otherwise.

This program not only impacts the students in this school but the many people in the community that gain freedom and independence by the dogs these students raise. Save this program!

The Guide Dog High school program was great. Raising Quinoa taught my child responsibility and gave him the opportunity to participate in something that will have a meaningful impact for years to come. He also gained a desire to attend school for the veterinary assistant program. This program was something that brought our whole family together to raise our puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

This class is very beneficial to those learning to care for animals, as well as those who will benefit from the puppies that are trained to be seeing eye dogs when they grow up. Taking away this class would negatively impact many people.

I have been involved in the Guide Dog program for a few years now. I realize the importance of this program to those in need but also the raisers. I have witnessed the dedication of high schoolers who raise pups. It is one of the most difficult volunteer jobs one can do but also the most rewarding; teaching responsibility and commitment.

Guide Dogs are so important in this world and for helping people with true disabilities such as blindness. I have direct experience training a guide dog for the blind. I directly met the person receiving a dog and just how much impact it had on the person life. Training in schools is one of the best environments for these dogs to learn how to manage stress and behave appropriately for an extended amount of time.

I raised guide dog puppies all through high school and it fostered so many skills that have served me well throughout my adult life/career. It is a true gift on both sides of the equation - visually impaired people and puppy raisers. Please consider reinstating this program.
Don’t get rid of the guide dogs please
