Save this program. It’s beyond beneficial for students and those in need of service dogs.

How dare you do this to the students you claim to support? You not only hurt the students you claim to support, you take an opportunity away from the dogs they train and, in addition, the people those dogs help. How many support people does the Superintendent need to help her do her job? Way too many. Cut the fat in the Salt Lake City School District Administrative Offices downtown and you will have plenty of money to support this valuable program.

This is a necessary program as there is a national shortage of guide dogs. It is a great way to give back to people that need support from guide dogs to gain more independence for themselves. It also helps students learn patience, consistency, self discipline, and predictably as they train the dogs.

I was part of the Guide dog program from 2013-2019. After graduating I became a certified professional dog trainer CPDT-KA & work for a local nonprofit training service dogs for veterans & first responders. I would not be a dog trainer today if it weren’t for this program.

My niece participated in this program with two different guide dogs. These dogs changed her life and the lives of those they later went on to serve as guide dogs. Please reconsider discontinuing this program. It is important to many people.

This program had a very big impact on my cousin and I would have participated had I attended a SLCSD school. I’m disappointed to hear that it’s ending.

I was a Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy raiser for 30+ years as an adult. It changed my life, definitely for the better. I learned about puppies and myself. I met some amazing people and developed friendships with people in my GDB club.

i raised a guide dog for the blind through the SLC school district my sophomore year of high school. it was the best and most educational program i ever took during my high school years. not only did it teach me responsibility, accountability, a routine, and new challenges i didn’t think i could overcome, but it also was a segway into my career in animal welfare that i’ve been apart of for the last 6+ years since graduating and i am now a supervisor at a well established shelter. my boy, Judd, was the dog i raised and he was the most crucial part of my young and adult life and growing up into the person i am now. without this program, i believe i’d be much further back in life. this program is so important for those who need seeing eye dogs and the volunteers / handlers alike!

As a volunteer puppy raiser for another organization, I think it's vital for students to be involved in such an amazing opportunity. Raising a service dog puppy teaches patience, responsibility, and builds community. These are all things that sometimes cannot be taught in a standard classroom. On the plus side, programs like these help so many people in need!

I raised two guide dogs when I was in High School. This program changed my life in so many ways, and seeing it end is heartbreaking. Please consider keeping it and consider the lives this program and these dogs impact.
