My students LOVE this program and Anna has done a great job with it. I see no reason to lose such a solid program in our efforts as SLCSD to pave the way for CTE in the state of Utah.

Guide Dogs For The Blind needs puppy razors now more than ever. Because of a variety of circumstances including programs such as this and workplace shutting down peoples ability to raise puppies, the wait time to train with a Guide dog now averages a year and a half to two years.
Besides doing important work that helps people like me remain confident independent travelers, this program empowers students to explore life skills and job readiness.
Add to that, this world needs compassionate, empathetic forward thinking people willing to look beyond their own phone screens.

This program has multiple benefits to the school, the students and the community at large. Students learn skills that can be generalized to other parts of life such as patience, responsibility, reliability, leadership, compassion, assertiveness, organization not to mention the animal training skills.

I love raising guide dogs. It is such a great program. I was hoping to do this program in later years of highschool. Guide dogs in in need of more puppy raisers and this made it possible to have more. Please rethink about shutting down the best program in school.

I am blind, and I received a dog from Guide Dogs For The Blind. If it was not for selfless acts of devoted people raising the puppies, I would not have had the Guide dog that I did. With that guy dog, we walked the stage twice once for my associates for next for my bachelors. I couldn’t do it without people like this. My dog took me to, and from all of my classes, he was my protector from the curbs and cars and load lying branches and unexpected obstacles. It was my buddy who was there whenever I had so many difficult tests and homework, and he was there when I was successful. We were inseparable. I couldn’t ask for a better guide, but I couldn’t have done it without a puppy raiser!

This program is so important for the community! I know many students who's lives were changed and who were able to help change other lives because of it.

Guide dogs are so important to the blind. Taking this away is taking away their eyes. The people who help train too will lose something special to them.

I may need one of this dogs in the not so distant future and I know how needed the love and companionship the dogs give these students. Don't take that from them.

How dare you threaten to take this away from students you claim to support? You not only hurt the students you claim to support, you take an opportunity away from the dogs they train and, in addition, the people those dogs help. How many support people does the Superintendent need to help her do her job? Way too many. Cut the fat in the Salt Lake City School District Administrative Offices downtown and you will have plenty of money to support this valuable program. Which I’ve seen firsthand help students land opportunities in the veterinary field, including becoming vet techs, and help with volunteer hours for college applications.

My friend and neighbor’s daughter participated in the Guide Dog program at Highland High School. She raised a fine dog who is now in service to a person with special needs, and she herself has currently been accepted to several veterinary schools, nationally and internationally. This program greatly influenced her path. Salt Lake City School District needs to reconsider and keep this invaluable and life-changing program!
