I am a parent of three students who participated in the guide dogs program. I was saddened to hear that the district is thinking of discontinuing this program. As a family, we raised seven dogs through the program. I can’t even tell you all of the benefits because some I don’t even know about. I know that each of my children that was involved benefited from the discipline it taught them, the compassion it taught them, and the knowledge they gained in life skills was immense. I would be happy to speak to any of the decision makers and answer any questions you might have from a parent perspective. Please don’t take this opportunity away from the current students or future students.

This program develops character and life long skills for puppy raisers! It also allows for people to receive much needed service dogs! Getting rid of this program is detrimental to students and the community.

Guide dog has changed me for the better. I have learned so much about animals through this program, as well as myself and my want to always care for animals. Guide dog has opened a pathway to veterinary sciences I wasn’t expecting, and for that I’ll be eternally grateful. All I want is for other kids to be given the same opportunities as me.

DONT SHUT DOWN THE PROGRAM!! The Guide Dogs program is what sparked my interest in animal behavior science and went well beyond teaching me how to train dogs, it taught me how to be a more compassionate individual, how to be patient in trying times, how to properly deal with saying goodbye to the ones you love, and most importantly it taught me how to appreciate life in every which way it comes. It would be a shame to rob our future generations of such opportunities so please DO NOT SHUT DOWN THE PROGRAM!
