These classes are so important for all the reasons listed.

Please save the guide dogs! Such important work!

This is a great program, not only for the students who learn valuable skills, including training puppies, but also for the people who benefit when they get a guide dog to help make their life more accessible than it would be otherwise.

This class must carry on

It is a loved program that supports kids in a positive way. To lose it would be a major loss to the school system and future students.

As a taxpayer in SLCSD, I would like my voice to be heard. This class is an incredible learning experience for the students. Please keep it.

Good program, keep it going!

I am writing in strong support of preserving the guide dog class at the Salt Lake City School District, a program that has had a profound and lasting impact on my life and the lives of many other students. Through raising and caring for a future guide dog, I learned far more than basic animal care. This class taught me responsibility in a real way, having another living being depend on me every day. It required discipline, patience, and problem-solving—lessons that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom. Beyond personal growth, the program instilled in me a deep sense of humility and service. Helping provide independence and mobility to someone who is blind or visually impaired gave purpose to our work and made volunteering deeply rewarding. The guide dog class also created a supportive community; I built strong friendships with peers who shared values of compassion and commitment. Together, we encouraged one another and celebrated milestones in our dogs’ development. This program shaped who I was and influenced my future. The skills I gained helped me start my own pet care work, supporting me financially during college. Eliminating this class would take away an opportunity that teaches life skills, fosters empathy, builds community, and contributes to an important cause.

Love animals

Please reconsider this decision as this class has so many intangible benefits for the students that decision makers often have not fully understood. I speak from personal experience as I have lived experience with a daughter who was born legally blind. She is now in law school with her guide dog by her side. Classes such as this one not only teach students about behavior, responsibility, and love related to the dogs but also about people with disabilities and doing something important and valuable for others.
