We are a small group of concerned citizens who are trying to save a local landmark from being destroyed by Giant Eagle to build a gas and convenience store. The church and cemetery has stood in the neighborhood of Cumberland on Washington Street for over 100 years. The congregation that occupies the church is currently in the process of selling to Giant Eagle, but hasn't gotten zoning changed to commercial usage. The area is a highly busy intersection and there are already at least 5 gas station convenience stores within that area. We are asking the zoning board NOT to grant the change. Please sign this petition to help save the church!

Reaching this level of support has been a heavy weight off my shoulders after so many days of feeling ignored. It is clear that I am not the only one who sees the value in preserving our history despite how exhausted I feel from the struggle.

There is already to much traffic and to many accidents at that intersection. There are enough gas stations in the area already. No need for a business of any type on that corner.

My husband and I have lived in Cumberland for 45 years and moved her because we liked the small town, old character of the town. While we appreciate progress, this is a very unnecessary sale to a company for another gas station/convenience store. We citizens of Cumberland want to buy the Church and repair it to its full glory!

I do not want to see this church destroyed. I am a member of the Witte family who were on of the founding members. To tear down a local landmark for a gas and convenience store is not necessary when there are plenty of other useable locations in the area. Why do we need another gas station in the area when there are so many others.

Each abandoned gas station adds to the amount of toxic soil in the community. Why not build on an already polluted former gas station site?

Please save this church building that is a symbol of our local history, our German heritage and the name sake for German Church Road.

as a commercial property owner in Cumberland my husband, Ron, and I are very much opposed to the church building being demolished. we feel the town needs this historic anchor to maintain the integrity and heritage of this lovely area. ,
