It's the principle of the matter. It is a Grade 11 listed building. Anyone else in the county would face an impossible task if they wanted to change the face of a Grade 11 listed. But seemingly here, Cornwall County Council have magic powers! I would very much like to know how planning permission was obtained. Did CCC sign off their own plans? Was English Heritage consulted?

This is a totally criminally insane act and who ever agreed to it should be fired immediately. If anyone else tried to ruin a listed building it would never be granted planning permission.

I feel very strongly that this building should stay as it is, GRADE 11 says it all, it's not rocket science! Having lived in Penzance for many years I have a lot of very happy memories of the building and the many ways it has been used. I feel for disabled people the back of the building or a side entrance would have been better as the areas are flater for wheelchairs.! Come on you councilers get a grip and rethink this, its not hard and obviously is not right for this beautiful building!

Cornwall Council should be ashamed as should Penzance Town Council who failed us by not strongly objecting to the ruination of what is effectively our Town Hall. As a former District Councillor I was proud to enter this iconic building in order to serve this wonderful town and its people who would be proud to enter it now? The disabled have been used as scapegoats in this scenario - everyone with no exceptions could have entered by a new side entrance and still ended up on the same place inside but that would have been too easy for CC . If you think the front is a mess go round the side opp the Police Station and from the car park look through the hoardings!!! Shame on all those Councillors who voted for this.

While the new is a sign of progress, there is also room for the old to emphasize that move forward. St John's Hall is a landmark in Penzance & the loss of it would be a piece of that identity. Please save the frontage
