The Forum is a piece of Halifax history. You cant just tear it down for some new generic rink somewhere else. Keep it where it belongs.

Fix the old building instead of wasting money on another project. It needs some love but it has been there forever.

Spent so many Saturdays at the flea market here growing up. This place has way more character than a new build ever will.

Forum has the best ice in the city anyway. Just renovate it and keep the history alive for the kids.

My grandfather worked there. Total shame if they throw it away.

STOP THE CLOSURE. Not everything in this city needs to be a shiny new box.

My two-cents. The heritage and nostalgic value of the Forum are NOT why I am supporting this petition. It is the multi-purpose functional value and the potential functional value that is crucial to preserve as well as the huge community of Halifax citizens who participate there. A large public, non-profit recreation and multi-purpose area on the Penninula is increasingly rare as we go through a much-needed densification process. We must preserve and update our public gathering spaces. They are an important component to building communty. It's environmentally and economically sustainable to keep these functional buildings. Some green space could be developed on the property with outdoor exercise playground areas for all ages. An outdoor movie screen (aka pedestrian 'drive-in' theatre). Community garden plots. At some point, as need arises, some height could be added/or buildings updated to include some related enterprises and offices - community recreation organization's offices come to mind. With the closing of the Roy Building and Bloomfield Centre, there is a big demand for offices and studios. Artists and non-profits make great paying tenants. If you take a look at all the development agreements in process in the North/West ends, it would be worth a pause to see how they all work out. If they are all built and filled with residents, those people are going to need places to re-create and gather. The Forum can be that space.

-It doesn't seem like many are discussing this yet, so what the hell, I'll kick it off with what I wrote concerning it here- Growing up on Summit St., not far away from the Halifax Forum, it was a big part of my childhood experience. Ranging from the Atlantic Winter Fair, to the after school Friday afternoon public skates, collecting broken hockey sticks from Voyageur players to attach plastic blades onto for street hockey, to the KISS rock concert my uncle reluctantly took me to back in 1977. I could go on, but on a less personal note, the Forum, with wise restoration, could continue to be an historic, and relevant part of Halifax well into the furure. Opened in 1927? That's almost 100 years ago! I'd say that far from being a waste of space, it's become a landmark an historical par of (yes, more famous) places such as Fenway Park in Boston, or Wrigley Field in Chicago.. There quite simply aren't many examples of such venues anymore.. Tear it down?? .While I'm not living in Halifax these days- I live in Osaka, Japan- there is a Japanese word most appropriate if the Forum were destroyed- "motainai", meaning "such a waste"... :( -What I commented on Facebook- -Unfortunately, it seems some want to tear down the Halifax Forum. Let's put a stop to this nonsense & keep that historical landmark (opened in 1927- only 15 years after Fenway Park in Boston) a vital part of both Halifax's history and landscape.
